Sophie’s in-depth projects focus on environmental and social issues, and the people directly touched by them. Her first major project E-Wasteland documented the consequences of illegal electronic waste in India and won a number of awards. She has been nominated five times for the Prix Pictet Award.
Sophie travels widely and her work features in magazines such as Guardian Weekend, The Washington Post, The Telegraph Magazine, FT Weekend and Le Monde. In Drawn To The Land she explores her relationship with Scotland after a decade away. It is an elegiac series of landscapes and portraits of the rarely represented women farmers. In 2012 Sophie co-founded Document Scotland with three other photographers, all committed to chronicling Scottish life.
For SIXTEEN Sophie engages with young people living in the city and on the land. Some are apprentices, some are training for work; they are all forging their futures in Scotland’s creative and rural industries.
